Life Science Delegation to the United Kingdom

The Embassy of Denmark, Danish Industry, and Healthcare Denmark are pleased to extend an invitation for our upcoming life science delegation visit to the United Kingdom from 19th – 21st of March 2025.

Denmark and the UK are very likeminded seeking pragmatic solutions benefitting the most. Further, DK and the UK share the challenges to the health care system and can be partners on evidenced, innovative and pragmatic solutions. With this in mind, the delegation program will be co-designed to help share perspectives, with focus areas on solving challenges through public-private partnership cooperation and peer engagement, balancing health policy needs with clinically relevant examples and showcases, promoting novel Danish technologies, products and services.

The life science industry is an important player within the UK. The annual turnover in 2020 of pharmaceutical goods was nearly 55 billion pounds. The UK’s pharmaceutical market is among the global top 10 national markets, holding 2.6 percent of the global pharmaceutical sector. The UK also continues to have the second highest budget allocation for health research and development as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) amongst comparator countries, behind only the USA.

The UK healthcare sector presents substantial opportunities for Danish medtech and pharma companies, driven by targeted government investments aimed at addressing critical system challenges. With 7.2 million people currently on NHS waiting lists, and workforce shortages of more than 112,000 full-time equivalent staff, there is an urgent need for innovations that can streamline patient care and reduce wait times. Further, with over 40% of the UK’s adult population managing at least one chronic condition, the Labour Party’s healthcare mission emphasizes the need for enhanced early diagnostics and personalized medicine.

Overall, the UK government’s strategic investment focus creates a robust landscape for Danish companies to contribute expertise in digital health, diagnostics, and preventative care, aligning with the UK’s goals to modernize the healthcare practices through digitization and innovation.

The aim of the delegation visit is to showcase relevant and effective health and life science solutions to DHSC and NHS England, and demonstrate how integrated service design, innovative technologies and products benefit patients, clinicians and members of the public.
