ENERGY DELEGATION TO UKRAINE 27 – 30 September 2021

DI and the Danish Embassy in Kiev invite Danish companies to join the Energy Delegation to Ukraine, where renewable energy and energy efficiency will be of focus.

BOOMING AND CHALLENGING ENERGY MARKET IN UKRAINE - COME AND JOIN US!

Danish Embassy in Kyiv and DI have the pleasure to invite your company to join an Export promotion tour covering the Energy Sector in Ukraine. The visit will take place in the period 27-30 September 2021 and will focus on the Renewable energy, Energy-efficiency to the industries, and Waste-to-energy subsectors.

In July 2021 Denmark and Ukraine have launched a new five-year energy partnership program with a focus on reducing CO2 emissions by developing long-term energy planning and on strengthening Ukraine's energy efficiency and district heating by utilizing surplus heat and modernizing its district heating network. With the new five-year programme, the Danish Energy Agency will continue its close partnership with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and start the cooperation with a new partner, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, which holds responsibility for the district heating sector.

WHY UKRAINE ?

  • Ukraine is one of Europe's largest energy markets,
  • 2035 UA goal - 25% of renewable energy sources in the TPES of Ukraine;  reduce the discharge of polluted wastewater into water bodies and to cut the landfill to below 35%
  • The UA government realizes the importance of sustainable development in the energy sector aligned with UA’s commitments towards the European Green Deal and ENTSO-E integration. Thus, it creates opportunities for the Danish companies in consultancy and supply and maintenance of technologies
  • The Danish Fund IFU invested already about 50 mio euros in the renewable energy projects in Ukraine together with other financial international investors and partners
  • Ukraine has a huge, still unrealized potential in renewable energy sources: biomass, solar, and wind. The recent disruptions in the electricity market enlightened market opportunities in energy storages, balancing systems, smart grid solutions, and green hydrogen production, usage and transportation.
  • Carbon taxes stimulates the Ukrainian heavy in dustries to invest in energy-efficiency and green transition of their productions to be competitive on the world markets. This should give Danish technologies providers extra push for getting pro- jects in Ukraine

Area: 603,628 km2

Population density: 73.8/ km2

GDP nominal (2019): $134,887 billion

GDP per capita (2019): $3,220

Major Industries: Fuel, mining, aircraft and aerospace, agriculture.

CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Ukraine wishes to provide its 42.5 million population with environmental security through a transformation of energy sources from fossil fuels to renewable and effective energy.

Currently, about 11% of Ukraine’s electricity is generated from renewable energy and hydropower. Additionally, the people of Ukraine are demanding green energy sources, as the prices of gas are continuing to increase.

Not only has the Ukrainian government set goals for the transition towards renewable energy in Ukraine, but they also wish to pursue some of FN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Namely, SDG7 and SDG13 that especially focusses on the environment and use of sustainable energy. To do this, the Ukrainian government seeks international help.

These Ukrainian goals provide opportunities for Danish companies with expertise within green solutions. With Ukraine being one of the 15 partnering countries, which the Danish Energy Agency is working with, there is already a firm Danish knowledge of the Ukrainian energy market, as well as a network of relevant Ukrainian contacts, established by the Danish Embassy in Kyiv.
