Webinar: China’s Labour Challenges
China’s employment situation is looking increasingly muddled as labour shortages in manufacturing is mixed with high youth unemployment.

Abundant labour supply has been a key feature of China’s industrialization. Now aging migrant workers are creating a factory labour shortage, as they prefer to work in less cumbersome service jobs.
At the same time, youth unemployment is at a record high. According to some estimates, nearly 1 in 4 people under the age of 25 are unemployed. The problem is particularly severe among college graduates. Almost 60% of young people are advancing to higher learning institutes, and despite the dire job prospects, few of them are willing to turn to manufacturing.
In this webinar, we examine how the bottlenecks in labour supply and demand will influence China’s status as a manufacturing powerhouse. How will it affect the investment climate at a time when the Chinese government is desperately trying to attract foreign companies back to China?
