Food Nation: Biosolutions produce more food with less resources

Producing more with less is hard, but Food Nation showcases the ones who do it.

How can we produce more food while using fewer resources? This question is becoming increasingly important as climate change, pressure on farmland, and higher sustainability demands reshaping global food systems. Farmers are expected to deliver higher yields using less land and fewer inputs, all while adapting to more challenging growing conditions.

Using land efficiently is therefore key. At the same time, growing expectations for reduced chemical use and more sustainable production methods are driving a shift toward biosolutions. Across the food and agricultural sectors, many companies are already developing nature-based alternatives that support this transition.

Food Nation has just released its new white paper, “Ingredients and Biosolutions”, which highlights companies applying biosolutions to address current challenges in food production. The publication presents examples from across the value chain, showing how biology can support efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.

One example is DLF, who focuses on improving nutrient balance in soil through Agritain, a nature-based forage solution. By reducing nitrogen leaching, the solution supports healthier soils and more sustainable farming practices. Another example is Novonesis, who uses enzyme and culture-based preservation solutions to help maintain freshness in products such as dairy and bread, contributing to reduced food waste.

Together, the cases in the white paper illustrate how biological solutions can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of food production by harnessing the power of biology to substitute existing fossil-based solutions.

We are thrilled and proud to see our innovative members highlighted in this publication – Agrain, Algiecel, Arla Foods Ingredients, DLF, EvodiaBio, FMC, KMC, MATR Foods, Nordic Microbes, and Palsgaard.
