Spain Denmark: Green Energy Transition

The green transition is ON in Spain with strong new investments in renewable energy, infrastructure, energy efficiency, and heating systems.

The green transition is ON in Spain with strong new investments in renewable energy, infrastructure, energy efficiency, and heating systems. Offshore wind will kickstart in 2023 with the first auction, and onshore wind, solar and biogas will continue to grow to reach the Government´s target.

Spain is the largest recipient of direct grants (70 bill. Euro) from the EU Recovery Plan and is implementing the record-breaking national recovery plan “España Puede”. The plan focuses on accelerating the green and digital transition in Spain. This speaks directly to Danish business strongholds.

At this conference, the Spanish Energy Agency, IDAE, will provide an overview of Spain’s investment plans and how to engage. Further, you will have the opportunity to engage with decision makers from the administration of several Spanish regions as well as business representatives. Further, there will be an opportunity to network with a visiting delegation from Spain seeking inspiration in Danish energy solutions – and to meet colleagues from the energy industry that are also active in the Spanish market.

Wind Power – offshore takeoff
Spain is a colossal market in renewable energies with the 2nd largest installed capacity of wind in Europe – (the 5th largest globally). Offshore wind is the next step with the first offshore wind auction planned for 2023 and a target of 3GW by 2030. Much new developments will also take place onshore in the years ahead – including repowering of existing parks and sites. Floating solutions are key, ports need to be adapted, supply chain developed, and the whole wind industry will bloom again with the offshore development.

Power-to-X – partnership potential
Spain plans to become a hub for green hydrogen and PtX with 4GW planned by 2030. Spain’s large renewable capacity, key ports, gas grid connections with Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and strong industrial and transport sectors that require alternative solutions to electrification all point to a strong potential and commitment to PtX. The outlook is promising and there are many possible synergies with Danish solutions and partners.

Biogas, biomass, and energy efficiency solutions are also on Spain’s roadmap for green transition and part of the recovery plan España Puede” and offer very interesting opportunities for Danish companies.
