Key indicators: Impressive U.S. job growth
The U.S. added a total of 312,000 new jobs in December. That is the second-highest number in the past two years and impresses the Confederation of Danish Industry’s senior analyst.
Americans created 312,000 new jobs in December, and unemployment fell slightly to 3.9 per cent. Employment has now increased for the past 99 months in a row.
“The U.S. jobs report for December is extremely impressive. The job market would have to come to a complete halt in order for Americans not to celebrate 100 consecutive months of increasing employment,” says Allan Sørensen, Senior Analyst at the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI).
“The many months of job growth means that unemployment in the U.S. is at a minimum. More than every third American company has jobs they cannot fill. This will slow economic growth in the U.S. in coming years,” says Allan Sørensen.
“Several years of job growth and wage growth has ensured high spirits among American consumers. Optimism, increased job security and more dollars in people’s pockets will keep the momentum going in American consumption,” says Allan Sørensen.
“The dollar has increased over the past year, and together with increased consumption this is good news for Danish businesses looking to take a bite out of the American market. An increasing dollar rate usually leads to increased exports to the U.S.,” says Allan Sørensen, Senior Analyst at the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI).
