ENERGY EFFICIENCY

-

Energy efficiency is a topic of growing relevance as still more companies strive for improved energy and resource efficiency in line with increasing global targets. Denmark’s experience and Danish solutions are in high demand abroad – and Danish companies are increasingly using energy efficiency as a selling point for their products and services.

During Green Energy Export Day, there will be workshops highlighting opportunities and activities within energy efficiency in the US, Poland, Netherlands and Germany, respectively. In these countries there is a manifest demand and growing awareness for Danish solutions, and a range of activities and partnerships to support Danish exports. Also, an “Asian Brief” is added to address innovative activities and campaigns taking place in South East Asian countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Specific attention is given to the Sustainable Industry Alliances working in the US and Germany working to promote Danish solutions for EE in industry specifically towards the food and beverages industries.

11.15 WORKSHOP #1

ENERGY EFFICIENCY / USA (+ASIA BRIEF)

Background
With the IRA, new momentum has been added to the US green transition across all sectors. This is also true when it comes to energy efficient. Industrial emissions and emissions from commercial and residential buildings account for roughly one third of the United States carbon footprint each, and the industrial sector is considered one of the most difficult to decarbonize. In March 2023, the US Department of Energy announced the largest investment in industrial decarbonization in US history.

The increased focus on industrial decarbonization and energy efficiency in buildings presents new opportunities for Danish businesses, as American stakeholders are interested in Danish companies’ unique solutions. Several initiatives take place to showcase Danish EE solutions to the market, i.e. through the Sustainable Industry Alliance. During the workshop, there will be the opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss with Danish businesses already present in the USA.

As a final point to this workshop, a brief presentation will be given on the latest developments within energy efficiency in Southeast Asia.

13.00 WORKSHOP #2

ENERGY EFFICIENCY / Europe: Netherlands and Poland

Background
Energy efficiency – both in industry and in buildings – is increasingly in focus in European countries. Not least due to the ongoing war in Ukraine bringing further attention to improving energy security and lower energy costs through efficiency at all levels – in industry, construction, behaviour and digital solutions.

According to the Fit for 55 plan buildings in the EU account for 40 pct. of the final energy consumption and 36 pct. of the energy related emissions. The EU has increased its focus with the Energy Efficiency Directive, which stipulates that all member states must decrease their energy consumption with 11,7 pct. from 2020 to 2030.

Denmark has the potential to be leading in the field and can show other countries what is possible. This also means that there are export and cooperation possibilities in several European countries, which we will dive into during this workshop.

14.30 WORKSHOP #3

ENERGY EFFICIENCY GERMANY

Background
Energy efficiency is pursued still more vigorously in Germany. The Bundestag is currently discussing an energy efficiency law to set binding targets for saving energy by 2030. There is a high potential for improving the energy efficiency in all sectors, e.g. optimization of heating systems for water and buildings, improved insulation, better windows and lighting, and for the industry more efficient drives, pumps, motors and compressed air as well as intelligent control and energy management.

Through the Sustainable Industries Alliance, a number of Danish companies are working to expand their German business. Building owners and developers have increasing demands for EE in buildings, taking a more holistic view bringing down the energy and climate footprint both in the operation and construction phase. This presents new opportunities to Danish exporters.
